Guilt is a way of taking responsibilty for one’s actions. The guilt one feels is a reflection of the hurt and betrayal the wronged person feels, much like empathy is a way of transcending oneself and trying to understand another human being in his/her pain. Guilt lets one realize that his/her actions effect others. With the freedom of being able to do right or wrong by another person comes the responsibility to accept the emotional consequences. “That is why I recommend that the Statue of Liberty on the East Coast be supplemented with a Statue of Responsibility on the West Coast.” -Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
What are these gatherings usually like? About how many people tend to show up? I might be able to make it out on the 21st!
