Last Sunday evening, the Mrs. and I sipped wine and doodled burlesque model, Kristen Minsky, at the Philadelphia chapter of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School. Half of us vectorized and colorized our doodles.

One night I had a dream.
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with my Wife
and across the sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints,
one belonged to me and the other to my Wife.
When the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in my life.
This really bothered me and I questioned my Wife about it.
“Wife, you said that once I decided to marry you,
you would walk with me all the way,
but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life
there is only one set of footprints.
“I don’t understand why in times when I needed you most,
you should leave me.”
My Wife replied, “My precious, precious husband,
I love you and I would never, never leave you
during your times of trial and suffering.
“When you saw only one set of footprints,
it was then that I cleaned up your filthy set.

]]>Words are flowing out
Like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universePools of sorrow waves of joy
Are drifting through my open mind
Possessing and caressing meJai Guru Deva, om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my worldImages of broken light
Which dance before me like a million eyes
They call me on and on across the universeThoughts meander like a restless wind
Inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universeJai Guru Deva, om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my worldSounds of laughter shades of earth
Are ringing through my open views
Inciting and inviting meLimitless undying love
Which shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universeJai Guru Deva, om
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my world
Nothing’s gonna change my worldJai Guru Deva

These gigantic works celebrate life, community and mortality. They’re literally and figuratively very heavy.
