I believe that Gene Wilder said it best in Blazing Saddles: “You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know… morons.”

Elitist posture, though it is true.
We, Americans refuse in public to say what we believe; not everyone has the same interests or abilities – is it demeaning to celebrate knowledge acquired after long years of study, if it is another’s triumph?
We are selfish. If you have no interest in class and sit distracted at the teacher’s efforts to inform…how is it six years later your uninformed opinion is solicited and held in any regard – much less a valuable opinion.
