On a recent trip to the bookstore, I spotted a publication titled, “Chicken Soup for the Nascar Fan’s Soul”. In the big Venn diagram of life, this book targets the overlap between Nascar racing enthusiasts and motivational anecdote fans. A strange demographic, to say the least.

In the Summer of 2003, I appeared live on a local news program called “FOX Good Day Philadelphia.” At the start of the show I rolled out over 150 feet of blank paper in front of the studio building. Throughout the two and a half hour broadcast, I painted a sprawling composition that included likenesses of the newscasters, Philadelphia icons and viewer requests.

In 2003, a handful of faculty members and I decided to perform in the annual talent show. The band ripped through a bang-up version of James Brown’s “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag,” while I flung paint onto two 4’x8′ pieces of plywood via my trusty 1″ foam brush.
